Santa Barbara Consultants (SBC) consists of a team of experts with vast experience in the mining, industrial, natural resources and productive sectors. This extensive experience in the management, review and optimization of mining operations allows us to design and deliver comprehensive engagements that increase the safety, productivity and sustainability of mining projects and mines, with the goal of benefiting both, the company and all its stakeholders. Founded by Steve Botts, in 2011, Santa Barbara Consultants today develops technical and strategic solutions for the mining industry, whose implementation is therefore effective and impactful in the field. It has rapidly grown its client base and grown in project participation, as well.
Santa Barbara is the Christian Saint considered the patron saint and protector of miners and tunnel builders, and in many countries small statues of her are placed at the entrance to protect the tunnel and those who work in it during construction. Her Saint’s day is celebrated on December 4th.

Steve is an international mining consultant with more than 40 years of experience in the development of mining projects, socio-environmental management, industrial safety and sustainable development.
Steve has lived and worked in Latin America for more than 20 years and has been part of the main mining projects and operations on the continent. In 2011 Steve founded Santa Barbara Consultants to provide technical and strategic consulting for the mining industry, through an expert consulting team with extensive experience in the sector.
Economist with more than 25 years of experience in economic and social development and corporate social responsibility, of which 15 in the mining sector.
Expert in strategic management of the social risk of mining operations, aligning social performance to business objectives, managing to minimize interruptions, improve its liquidity and the feasibility of the Project. She was the Regional Planning Manager of Rio Tinto- La Granja and is a member of the board of directors of the Responsible Mining Foundation (Switzerland) ”.
With over 30 years of experience in the mining industry, Evelyn is an expert in the development and review of mine closure and other environmental management plans.
She has provided international technical and project management support for metal, coal and industrial mineral mining projects both as an employee of BHP and as a consultant. Evelyn has a degree in Geology from the University of Michigan.
Sandra is a Bachelor of International Relations and Economics and has 15 years of work experience, mainly in human resource management and consulting.
She has experience in the design and execution of recruitment strategies for "Start Ups" of large projects and in the design and planning of a workforce in the medium and long term. Her Human Resources experience is comprehensive, including organizational development and restructuring processes, design and execution of local employment strategies, and design and implementation of talent development and training programs.
Daniel Gurtler is a consultant with over 40 years of experience in mine management, new project development (greenfield and brownfield), financial evaluations, project and operations budget development and evaluation, and process change implementation.
Daniel has worked and lived in Latin America for more than 20 years in total; including Peru, Chile, Argentina and Panama.
Marco is a Forestry Engineer, with an MBA and a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering. He has 22 years of experience in environmental and social management for the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors.
He has led programs for the restoration, management and recovery of soils, restoration of vegetation and environmental control and large mining projects. He has also conducted and monitored relationship processes with communities and authorities.
Vanessa is a PhD. in Biology and has more than 15 years of experience as a biologist and scientific advisor, including more than 10 years providing services directly to the mining sector.
She is an expert in the development of Environmental Management Systems that meet the requirements of ISO 14001, the development and review of management programs for compliance with IFC Performance Standards, as well as other international guidelines and standards. Vanessa leads the team of consultants in the different fields, contributing her deep knowledge and methodological rigor.
Environmental Engineer with more than 15 years of experience in large and medium open pit and underground mining, in the areas of environment, permits, industrial safety, with a main focus on operational continuity, based on continuous dialogue and information delivery.

As a biologist, Yoselin has experience in the assessment of high Andean ecosystems and environmental management for projects in the transportation, oil and gas, and mining sectors.
She has participated in environmental impact studies and environmental management strategies, contributing the biodiversity component. She has also participated in compliance evaluations using international standards and specializes in wetland recovery.
Jorge is a specialist in internal medicine, occupational health and medical audits. Through his more than 28 years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety, he has accompanied and advised the mining sector implementing health and control systems.
For the last time his focus has been on the response to the contingency caused by COVID 19. His experience and deep knowledge ensure the health and quality of life of workers and their environment through a main and integrated approach, which is part of the specialized consultancies that he develops at Santa Barbara Consultants.
Professional with experience in human resources management, leading job study, recruitment and selection processes, training and development, performance evaluation, work climate and culture studies, internal communication, general services and personnel administration.

Cecilia has more than 15 years of experience in the areas of social management, community development and socio-environmental of the mining sector. Likewise, she has extensive experience in supervision processes carried out by government authorities and shareholders of mining operations and projects.
His knowledge and extensive experience in multidisciplinary teams brings a comprehensive vision to the Santa Barbara Consultants teams of which she is a part.
Mark is an international consultant in Industrial Safety, Health and Hygiene; has more than 43 years of experience in mining projects in their development, construction and operation stages, both in underground mining and open pit.
Mark has lived and worked in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Central and South America, in countries like Panama, Peru, Chile, and Argentina. Mark's solid experience and knowledge allow Santa Barbara to provide comprehensive safety consultancies applying the highest international standards.
Yesenia has 16 years of experience and a solid understanding of engineering processes in both large extractive industries.
He has participated in all stages of a construction project (Conceptual, Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, Basic Engineering, Detail Engineering, Construction and Commissioning), as well as the management of technical and contractual documents. At Santa Barbara Consultants, Yesenia contributes her knowledge and experience to guarantee the service quality standards of each consultancy.
